What is Sherra Farm?

Sherra Farms is a small farm located 20 minutes outside of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. What started as a dream and a brush covered 10-acre parcel of land, Terra purchased the land in 2012 and moved a 100-year-old farmhouse onto the property and began renovating. At the time, Terra was a single mom of 2 kids, working in the city in a corporate insurance career. Shane is a 3rd generation farmer and owns a cattle farm 5 miles down the road from Terra. They got together in 2017 to become life partners and decided to combined farms, creating Sherra Farms.

Over the last couple of years the farm has grown to include beef cattle, sheep, chickens, pigs, rabbits, a dairy cow, donkeys and several gardens and a greenhouse.

Shane is a MacGyver of farm life with an amazing ability to create and construct things using basic materials. He is a problem solver.

Terra studied nutrition and has passion for homesteading, healthy living and insatiable curiosity for life in general. In 2019, Terra decided to make a career shift from corporate office to full time “farmher”. Terra comes up with ideas. Shane figures out how to do them. Together they work hard to bring them to life.

Why we farm

Terra has seen first hand how nutrition plays a leading role in health and well-being. For many years, as a single working mom, it was challenging to feed her family clean healthy organic food on a small budget. But it always remained a priority. This has led to a life mission to make healthy food affordable and bring awareness of it’s impact on our lives.

Farming is not just something we do, it’s our way of life. We farm because we love it. Both of us enjoy working outdoors and interacting with the animals. We find it very rewarding working with our hands. And we want to eat the most nutritious food possible, so we raise it. It’s also one of the ways we earn an income. We believe that this way of life is not only better for us and our families, but it’s also good for our local community economy and the environment.
